There are things that you’re infatuated with for a short period of time, an infatuation that lessens as time goes on, as you discover new things, or as you surround yourself with different people. And then there are things that as year after year goes by you’re still as obsessed as the year before. This summer, I’m as in love with the Kings of Leon as I was on my 18th birthday standing front row at their concert. No matter how many times I listen to “Cold Desert,” “Pyro,” “Back Down South,” or “True Love Way,” I want to listen to them again and again and again. And each time I smile.

I love summer. I love flip-flops, I love bathing suits, I love swimming in the invigorating ocean water. I love hiking, I love running on the strand. I love staying out late and sleeping in later. I love being barefoot. I love sandy feet. And I love summer concerts.
For my 18th birthday, my friend Caroline and I waited in line for 6 hours to get front row seats to Kings of Leon. Every second of that line was worth it. From Adele to John Mayer to MGMT to Coldplay to Passion Pit to Rilo Kiley to Jack Johnson to Tom Petty … the melodic sounds have caressed my soul.
Last night marked my first concert of this summer: Mumford & Sons. I love love love this band: every song, every harmony, every chorus, every dramatic build-up and every poetic lyric. Their performance went above and beyond. After waiting in traffic for 2 hours to move merely 16 miles, tensions were high and legs were stiff. But nothing soothed my soul more than their performance of “Below My Feet,” the open air and starry night, and, of course, a nice cold Blue Moon.
